Your Library Card

Getting a card, renewing materials, placing holds, etc.

Who can get a card
Residents of the state of Texas are eligible to get a library card.  Patrons who live within the city limits of Elgin are eligible for a free card.  Patrons who live outside the city limits are charged an annual fee of $15.   

How to Get Your Card
Please bring information with your name and current address.  This could be a driver's license or other documents, such as from landlord, bank or insurance company.  We have you fill out a short application and, if wanted, the Acceptable Computer Use applications.  

Borrowing Limits

Our standard check out time is for two weeks.  We can check out for longer periods of time when needed.  We tell patrons to not check out more materials than what they can be responsible for.  This means that if the books get left out in the rain, you should be able to pay for them or replace them with comparable materials. 

Placing Holds
Please contact the staff in the library, log on to the OPAC at or call 512 281-5678 to place a hold.  We can be contacted through this website by clicking on About Us/Contact Us at the left hand column.  Their is no charge for the reserving materials.  

Renewing Your Borrowed Items
Library staff will gladly recheck materials in the library, over the phone or contact through the website on the left hand column under About Us, Contact Us. You may log on the OPAC at and renew your materials.  Items that have been placed on reserve by other patrons are not eligible for renewal.

Library Fines
Fines are 10 cents a day per book but not counting Sunday, Monday or holidays.  We also have two days of grace before the fines begin.
